The
symptoms of mononucleosis are initial high fever, swelling of the lymph
glands in the neck and armpits and a sore throat. A majority of the
cases of mononucleosis are mild and get healed easily with minimal
treatment. The infection is usually not serious and disappears on its
own in 1 or 2 months.
Other symptoms may include:
- •Headaches
- •Tiring
easily
- •Muscle
weakness
- •Flat
pink or purple rashes on the skin or in the mouth
- •Swelling
of the tonsils
- •Night
sweats
The
liver or spleen may also swell up sometimes but mononucleosis is not
fatal most of the time.
It is difficult to differentiate between mononucleosis and other common
viruses like the flu. If the symptoms do not reduce with 1 or 2 weeks
of home treatment like resting, drinking enough fluids and eating
healthy foods, consult a doctor.
